Overlooking the Gulf of Ajaccio, Alata is home to the Pozzo di Borgo family, hereditary enemies of the Bonapartes. The 16th-century village is guarded by the Pozzo di Borgo tower. Two other towers, the only remains of the medieval village, were founded by the Counts of Cinarca, from the Suzzone branch of Lisa. The exterior of Château de la Punta, with its Louis XV decor and garden, can be visited in typical classical style, and its façade is currently being restored. A chapel dating from the same period houses the family tombs. Alata is a typical Corsican village and a pleasant place to linger.
