This small town must have existed at the beginning of the Middle Ages and a priory was created there at the end of the 11th century. Founded in 1270 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis, it took on its present appearance under English rule. The battle of Eymet in 1377 was an important moment in the history of the reconquest by Du Guesclin. After the Hundred Years' War, it was one of the high places of the reformed cult. Eymet lies in a meander of the Dropt, where one can go and admire a venerable Romanesque bridge curved over fishy waters. The houses of the 15th and 16th centuries are organized around a square with arcades and a hall, they form an admirable architectural ensemble whose half-timbered houses and the 13th century castle are the beauty of accomplices. Eymet, a French bastide town at the height of the war, now lives with a strong English presence.
