Halfway between Allemans-du-Dropt and Eymet in the Dordogne, La Sauvetat-du-Dropt boasts the tranquil air of a Lot-et-Garonne village. In the 11th century, abbot priors settled in the Dropt valley and created a place of refuge called Salvetat, meaning "saved". All that remains today is the large church with its superb choir, the old medieval bridge, a 12th-century square military tower, a former commandery of the Knights Templar, the remains of the 15th and 16th-century fortified enclosure and some attractive half-timbered houses. Every Friday in July and August: gourmet evenings on the Prairie des Croquants.
