Casseneuil, a thriving bastion of Catharism in the 13th century, put up fierce resistance to the armies of Simon de Montfort before falling in 1214. The destruction of the walls and almost the entire city was the price of this resistance. The annexed port of Mayne and its ferry saw more than 800 barrels of wine pass through each year from the 14th century onwards. In the 19th century, the development of the road network and the obsolescence of its port left the town on the sidelines. The plum will save the village! A walk in the old town or on the banks of the Lède is worth the detour. Don't miss the Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul church in Casseneuil. A little jewel!
