Day 1: Tirino Valley - L'Aquila

Steps: L'Aquila, Assergi, Rocca Calascio, Capestrano, Castel Del Monte, Porto Santo Stefano

Discover the stone villages of the Tirino Valley in the heart of the Gran Sasso National Park(Capestrano, San Stefano di Sessanio, Castel del Monte). Climb up to the fortress of Rocca Calascio to enjoy the spectacular view. In the afternoon, go to L'Aquila to enjoy the liveliness of the end of the day in its still battered streets. Visit the Basilica of San Bernardino, reopened in 2015, and make a detour to Santa Maria di Collemaggio and the Fountain of the 99 Mouths.

Day 2: Gran Sasso National Park

Steps: Assergi, Passo Delle Campannelle

From Fonte Cerreto, nearAssergi, take the funicular to Campo Imperatore. From Passo delle Capannelle, follow one of the many hiking trails (itineraries are available on the park website).

Day 3: Direction Vasto

Steps: San Vito Chietino, Chieti, Ortona, Vasto, Fiesole

There are two itineraries to choose from (which can be combined if you have enough time): from the coast, reach the small center ofOrtona, then follow the Costa dei Trabocchi to Vasto; from the hinterland, visit Chieti and greet the Warrior of Capestrano at the Archaeological Museum, then cross the bucolic hilly landscape and stop at a winery for a wine tasting.

Day 4: Vasto - Termoli

Steps: Pescara

Visit of two historic centres overlooking the sea. In the afternoon, visit the natural Reserve of Punta Aderci and enjoy its unspoilt beaches of great tourism.

Day 5: National Park of Majella

Steps: Lama Dei Peligni, Novalesa

Follow trails to discover waterfalls, vast mountain landscapes, hermitages hanging on rock; visit the cave of Cavallone.

Day 6: Sulmona, Pacentro and Scanno

Steps: Sulmona, Scanno, Pacentro

Discover the charming city of Sulmona, its Piazza Garibaldi, bordered by the medieval aqueduct, and its Palazzo dell'Annunziata blend with elegant Gothic and Renaissance styles. Take a little step in Pacentro and walk through its alleys to the imposing castle. Follow the Sagittario valley to Scanno and its medieval centre.

Day 7: National Park of Abruzzo or province of Isernia in Molise

Steps: Bosa, Pescasseroli, Isernia, Venafro, Sepino, Agnone, Pietrabbondante

Hiking enthusiasts will head for the Abruzzo National Park. The others will go to Isernia, its small historical center and its Fontana della Fraterna, whose visit they will combine with a stop at Pietrabbondante and its archaeological site, then at Agnone; the visit of Venafro, its castle and its Roman remains; the archaeological site of Saepinum, wrongly ignored.
