This is the French-speaking part of Switzerland, known as Suisse romande or Romandie, or even Westschweiz (in German-speaking Switzerland). Its inhabitants are called the Romandes and the Romands. Located in the west of the Confederation, it is home to almost 2 million people, just under a quarter of the Swiss population. French-speaking Switzerland includes the cantons of Geneva, Jura (with the exception of the German-speaking commune of Ederswiler), Neuchâtel and Vaud and part of the cantons of Bern (Bernese Jura and Biel), Fribourg and Valais. The cantons of Geneva and Vaud are popular with French tourists and French employees who work in Switzerland and live on the outskirts. The coasts of Lake Geneva are very attractive. The seaside stays are a real pleasure. And climbing the steep banks is not lacking in charm either! Wine, villages with cobbled streets and old buildings, gastronomy, shopping and of course the language are all attractions of this "French" Switzerland.

Add to this the "glittering" side of the Vaud Riviera, with Vevey and Montreux and, on the Lavaux side, the famous terraced vineyards and winegrowers' villages that make up an authentic and magical territory, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2007).
