Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines officially dates back to the 11th century. Its name refers to a rural cross at the entrance to the Grand-Rombach and the silver mines at Herrschaft and Stimbach. This charming little town has long drawn its wealth from paper mills, spinning mills and cloth dyeing. Today, its main assets are its communal forest, cattle farms and tourism. Its architectural heritage includes the Saint-Blaise and Grand Rombach chapels, as well as the Villa Burrus and its superb park, which hosts cultural events throughout the year.
