Otalswiler is the oldest name in Orschwihr. It appears in a deed of gift from Count Eberhard d'Eguisheim to Murbach in 728, which mentions vineis (vines). Nestled in a valley between vineyards and dry hills cradled by a Mediterranean microclimate, Orschwihr is a prosperous wine-growing village that benefits from well-exposed slopes, especially on the Bollenberg and Pfingstberg. This prosperity is evidenced by the presence, in the lower part of the village, of magnificent residences dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. To be admired from the first Sunday of Advent until the end of January: Orschwihr's nativity scene is a century-old jewel!
