Cap-d'Espoir has been part of the town of Percé since 1971, some fifteen kilometers to the northeast. Its name refers to the 15-metre-high cape it sits on, and a late 17th-century map by the récollet Emmanuel Jumeau makes particular reference to it. Its name changed over the centuries, however, and it wasn't until 1935 that the locality reverted to its original name. Today, visitors come here for its large, unsupervised beach on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, as well as for its lighthouse. You can even sleep on site, as rooms in the former lighthouse keeper's house are available for rent.
