Several local legends surround the name of this municipality. Some say it's the name of the ship that sailed along the coast in the 18th century, while others believe the name refers to the color of the seabed (l'Anse "aux gris-fonds"). The most popular story has the Devil appearing, answering the call of shipwrecked sailors in distress. He left the mark of his claws on the side of the small boat in which they had taken refuge. Beyond its legends, visitors come here for its cultural center, its manor house dating back to 1850, once owned by a wealthy cod merchant, and its incredible seaside inn, Griffon Aventure.
