Founded by the chocolate maker Henri Menier and located in Gamache Bay, the island's only village was chosen at the beginning of the last century because of its deep-water port. With some 200 inhabitants, it lives mainly from tourism and the forestry industry. It is home to the Sépaq discovery and service center, lodging and restaurant services, a garage and gas station, a general store and a grocery store.
