A significant heritage site that has been protected since the creation of Forillon Park in 1970, it has a historic character in the areas of fishing, agriculture and the wood industry. As early as 1608, Grande-Grave was a strategic seasonal fishing post for New France. In 1792, the Janvrin Company, from Jersey, England, settled in Grande-Grave, which became a major site for the cod trade. Then in 1845, William Hyman bought the fishing company of Norman Francis Ahier and made Grande-Grave his main fishing establishment. The company's general store (1918) has become a historic site that can be visited in the summer.
