The village's name comes from a stream that rises on the southern slopes of the Tannenköpfle. It was founded in 896. Muhlbach was part of the Communauté de la Ville et du Val de Munster, founded in 1235. Muhlbach was also the birthplace, in 1575, of Johann Carolus, who founded the world's first printed newspaper! A signposted trail, which can be downloaded from the town hall website, provides more detailed information on the history and heritage of Muhlbach-sur-Munster. From the village, you can set off on foot or mountain bike along various hiking trails leading, for example, to the Braunkopf, Gaschney, Hohneck and Schiessrothried lakes.
