First mentioned around 900 AD under the name Saltzeren, the small village of Soultzeren probably owes its name to the presence of saltwater springs. The commune was hard hit during the Thirty Years' War and, much later, during the First and Second World Wars. A memorial stone topped by a French military helmet stands at the entrance to Soultzeren. From the Kaltenborn (next to the fire station), you can take the Wettstein road to Lac du Forlet. Other hiking trails lead to Hohrodberg, Lac Vert and Bichstein rock.
