Located on the ancient Roman road along the Ill, Meyenheim was first mentioned in writing in 789, when the village was bequeathed to the abbey of Murbach. However, its origins go back much further, with archaeological evidence of human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. Campaniform vases from the late Bronze Age (1200 and 725 BC) are on display at the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, and cremation tombs at the Musée de la Régence in Ensisheim. Remains such as a Roman drain, a well discovered at the Boog gravel pit and coins also attest to the presence of a Gallo-Roman settlement.
