On the French-Belgian border on the edge of Hainaut, Mouscron or "la cité des hurlus" is known for its tradition of hospitality, good food and festivities. The origin of this nickname dates back to the time of the Wars of Religion: Protestants, involved in attacks and looting and persecuted by Catholics, took refuge for several years in Mouscron. These "hurlus" have since become the symbol of the town. Every year, the town's inhabitants come together to celebrate this folklore with joy and good humor. Other attractions include the Marcel Marlier Interpretation Center, Martine's father.
