Monthélie is quite small and relatively unknown. Numerous Gallic and Roman remains discovered on the site attest to a very ancient human presence. The village with its narrow streets is worth a visit, if only to contemplate its strange castle. There are no grands crus, but ten premiers crus. The commune covers 317 hectares, of which 31 hectares are Premier Cru, the rest are communal or regional appellations, with the Chardonnay grape variety supplying the whites and the Pinot Noir the reds. Here again, the website of the commune's winegrowers will give you valuable information to help you organise your trip: www.monthelie.org
