This commune, bordered by wine-growing estates, nestled in the hollow of a hill called "val d'or", lives to the rhythm of the grape harvest and the work of the vines, in a picturesque setting with stone houses, a typical image of the wine-growers' houses of the region. 1543 ha of which more than a third is devoted to vineyards, and about 1300 Mercury and Mercuryennes for the majority of the owners of superb wine estates. The commune is known throughout the world as a worthy representative of its Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), established in 1923. It includes 32 climats classified as Premier Cru in the communes of Mercurey and Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu with 847 ha of vines allowing the annual production of 3 316 000 bottles of red and 422 000 bottles of white wine, or nearly 15% of white wine. Crus full of bouquet and reputed to have a long ageing potential, between five and seven years will be perfect to make the most of all its generosity. Located less than 10 km from Chalon and not far from the main roads, Mercurey is an important stop on the route des Grands Vins de la côte chalonnaise. The church of Touche, the pond of the Latin bridge, the green walks and the visits of the numerous domains constitute the main tourist attraction for a stay between the land and peaceful holidays.
