Doneztebe - Santesteban is situated in the heart of the Malerreka Valley and is surrounded by mountains. In the Middle Ages, Doneztebe was an important trading centre, and even today it still lives from trade (the town is famous for its cattle fairs). There are some interesting architectural features here, such as the San Pedro church, which was reformed in the Baroque period, and the Town Hall, built in the 18th century. It is a good starting point for visiting the surrounding area and especially the Senorio de Bertiz Nature Park. If you have the time, take a tour of the small village of Oieregi: it is home to some beautiful residences.
