With barely 200 inhabitants, Inishmaan(Inis Meáin in Gaelic) is even more peaceful than Inishmore. It is the most preserved of these islands, the least populated and the least visited. In short, it is a peaceful place where cows and sheep graze peacefully on a rock 5 km long and barely 3 km wide. The playwright John Millington Synge spent a few summers there at the beginning of the 20th century. He stayed in a thatched cottage that can be visited by appointment. At Gregory Sound, you can sit on a stone cairn named Synge's Chair. There are also two remaining forts (Dún Conar and Dún Moher).
