Lisdoonvarna is a spa town full of hotels, restaurants and bed & breakfasts, making it more of a stopover town... except in September, when it hosts the Matchmaking Festival (a famous "singles fair"!). In any case, it's a good starting point for visiting the famous karst plateau of the Burren. The local spa welcomes many visitors every year, and has done for centuries. Lisdoonvarna's water contains iron, sulfur, magnesium and iodine, all of which are said to be good for rheumatic pain.
