The administrative town of County Clare, Ennis is alive, and very much so. Its main streets are alive with activity, tempered by the nonchalance of the River Fergus, the soothing calm of its 13th-century priory, its austere 19th-century cathedral and the tall statue of O'Connell. There's plenty of shopping on O'Connell Street and Parnell Street, and a few good restaurants to recover from the day's sightseeing. As you can see, Ennis is a pleasant place to take a break and an excellent starting point for exploring the beautiful region of County Clare.
