About 35 km from the capital, heading south, you will find unspoilt beaches in Aghia Pelaghia, Aghios Stefanos Avlioton, Arilas and especially in the green bay of Aghios Georgios. This area is more unspoilt and less popular with mass tourism. The road overlooking the bay offers magnificent views, including a strip of sand about 5 km long. The church of the monastery Aghios Andreas (17th century) is worth a visit. Spared by the 1953 earthquake, it houses remarkable frescoes and beautiful icons on wood and metal. In season, the village comes alive with taverns, restaurants and a few hotels and pensions
