Porto Palermo is an uninhabited bay in the municipality of Himara. It lies 5 km southeast of Himara and 47 km northwest of Saranda. The beach is served by the Vlora-Saranda minibus service. This superb bay has been miraculously preserved. 3 km long, it was known in ancient times as Panormos. This strategic site, which reminded the Venetians of the bay of the Sicilian city of Palermo, was used to control shipping between Himara and Corfu. The bay boasts a fine Venetian fortress and a former Communist-era submarine base that can be visited. You can also swim, eat and sleep here.
