Former bishop of Angers, Saint-Aubin (468-550) gave his name to many French communes, of which about thirty for Normandy, which was provisionally known, to the Revolution, Clairefontaine, proof of its wealth in sources. At that time and for 8 years, the village church served as a cache to the priest Hébert, proof that there was a nucleus of parishioners attached to the royalty here. It should be noted that in 1905, the year of separation of church and state, the building was blasphemy: The gendarmes forced the door and entered horses. Today, this municipality of the Alençon countryside, whose village is located 4 km north of the Medle-sur-Sarthe, has barely 400 inhabitants. Its characteristic Saint Aubin church with its three-story square tower, including the oldest part of the xiith century, has recently benefited from extensive restoration, supported in particular by the Normandie Regional Natural Park.
