A picturesque village, whose medieval vestiges and private mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries can be discovered along the streets, Bellême is (along with Mortagne-au-Perche) an ancient capital of the Perche region. Preserving its authentic character, it is today antique stores, tea rooms, painting galleries and other artists' studios that have taken up residence there. Located in the heart of the Perche Regional Nature Park, the little town is surrounded by manors, mills and stone villages nestled in hilly landscapes whose charms vary with the seasons. From the nearby Beauce region, the city is the gateway to Normandy.
