Chelsea was founded in 1870. It was a worker from the Frisco (the line connecting St. Louis to San Francisco) who named the new settlement after his hometown in England. It was here, in 1889, that the first oil well in Oklahoma was drilled by Edward Byrd. It was only 11 m deep and far from the current drilling possibilities (9,000 m). The discovery of oil was responsible not only for the growth of the city, but also for the destiny of all of Oklahoma. At the entrance to Chelsea, a slight detour on S 4260 Road, just before the river crossing, allows you to discover a beautiful steel bridge from 1926.
