Locals and regulars call it "P-town". This charming little town is located at the end of the peninsula. Provincetown has always been a stronghold of artists, and is also home to a large gay and lesbian community. The atmosphere in Provincetown is relaxed and fun. On the facades of the houses float rainbow-coloured flags with the word " Peace " written on them. In the summer, wild parades take place in the streets, some of which are dedicated to dogs, who are proudly displayed by their masters! But the small town also has many fishermen, the majority of whom are of Portuguese origin. As for artists, the writer Norman Mailer lived here for more than 40 years, and painters such as Edward Hopper and Jackson Pollock have worked here. In Provincetown, you feel like you're at the end of the world. In fact, to the west of the city (in Commercial Street), you can see Long Point, the farthest part of the coast in the Atlantic Ocean, in the distance. The pioneers who had crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower settled there around 1620, then, feeling isolated on this islet, moved to Plymouth. Don't miss Provincetown, an excursion at sea from April to October to meet the whales! For the record, P-Town is referred to as the "forgotten port" because it is not mentioned as a whaling port in Moby Dick, which is surprising given its importance in the 18th and 19th centuries - the story is told at the Pilgrim Monument.
