An unincorporated community in Natchitoches Parish, Melrose is part of the Cane River Creole National Historical Park and Heritage Area and includes the famous Melrose Plantation. It is the only point of interest in the area and a visit to the plantation is a must if you are in the area. Although the Badin-Roque house is officially located within the limits of Natchez, it is in fact a few minutes drive from Melrose Plantation, on the other side of the Cane River. Right next to the small bridge on Route 493 that leads to it is the beautiful St. Augustine Church.
