Exeter is a pleasant little town, which lives with the rhythm of the seasons; it seems closer to the spirit of Massachusetts than that of New Hampshire. It is split in two by the Squamscott River. A small residential town, it is home to Philips Exeter Academy (1783), which attracts a young population of nearly 1 million students. Exeter is also steeped in history: the first Declaration of Independence from Great Britain was drafted and printed here in 1776. To find out more about this, be sure to visit the American Independence Museum, undoubtedly its most interesting attraction.
