Brookline, southwest of Boston, is an upscale, mainly residential suburb. It is best known as the birthplace of the 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Apart from discovering this historic site, tourists have little reason to venture to Brookline, other than to admire the opulent mansions lining its pleasant tree-lined streets. You can, however, drop in from Boston to visit JFK's birthplace. Brookline is easily accessible by subway, so you can spend a few hours there, grab a bite to eat and head back to Boston.
