The port of Macinaggio practically marks the northern maritime extremity of the island. With its 600 moorings, this fishing and yachting harbor has become a major tourist attraction over the years, serving as a stopover for yachtsmen between Corsica and the mainland or Italy. Until the end of the 19th century, boats and sailboats were built here. It is also home to the prehistoric site of Coscia, testimony to Corsica's oldest known Paleolithic settlements. Last but not least, the port was the scene of many historic landings, including those of Pascal Paoli, Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Eugénie.
