Mount Dajti (Mali i Dajtit, pronounced "mali i daïtite") is located in the Tirana district. It rises to an altitude of 1,613 m, about 10 km northeast of the city center as the crow flies. The mountain is part of the Mount Dajti National Park, which can be reached by several roads to the south and north, as well as by the Dajti Ekspres cable car. The departure station of the latter is 5 km northeast of Skanderbeg Square (bus connection with line no. 11 Qendër-Porcelani). The cable car's arrival station is also accessible by road, 25 km from the town center: go through the hamlet of Surrel (10 km east of Skanderbeg square), then follow mountain road SH 47.Nicknamed the "balcony of Tirana" (Ballkoni i Tiranës), Mount Dajti is the highest peak in the Skanderbeg massif, which runs from Kruja to Elbasan. From the top station of Dajti Ekspres, at an altitude of 1,033 m, there are superb views across the Tirana plain to Durrës and the Adriatic Sea. But few visitors venture up to the summit itself, at 1,613 m, or even into the rest of Mount Dajti National Park. For while Mount Dajti is a popular destination for Tirana's residents, especially at weekends, most of them are content to stay around the cable car arrival station, which is equipped with a recreation area. So it's easy to escape the crowds by climbing to the top and exploring other parts of the national park.
