Created in 1923, the park of Taza, with an area of 300 ha, is one of the oldest protected areas in Algeria. In magnificent landscapes, between rocky coasts, sandy beaches and rainforests - which can be discovered from the viewpoint near the reservoir that can be reached by the small secondary road that climbs between El-Aouana and Ziama Mansouriah -, it is home to considerable biological wealth whose inventory is not complete. Mammals (the magot monkey, a macaque, is undoubtedly the most remarkable), birds (the rare protected Kabyle sitelle), reptiles and insects compete for the land covered with Zean oaks, cork oaks and cedars. The park was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2004.
