In 1944, Wintzenbach suffered friendly bombs... A bomber plane from England to Stuttgart was unfortunately intercepted by the Germans and had to drop its cargo before crashing a little further away. All the bombs fell on the village and many buildings were destroyed. However, you can see the church of Saint-Égide and its organ built by Michel Stiehr (of Seltz) around 1800 despite a tenacious urban legend attributing it to Silbermann...
