Scheibenhard means "clearing in the forest". This place was inhabited a long time ago and there is a potter's oven in Neewiller, mounds in the forests, and remains of Roman roads. The parish of Saint-Georges was less fortunate. A first church built in the 13th century was destroyed in the 17th century. Another one was rebuilt, still dedicated to Saint George, but it was also destroyed during the Second World War. A temporary wooden church was rebuilt and in 1962 the present church was built.
