Tübingen is a pearl planted on the Neckar river, populated by 88 000 happy inhabitants. It is quietly reflected in the river and sees tourists and students along the Platanen-Allee. " Tübingen is not a university city, it is a university ". The history of the city is closely linked to knowledge and the prestigious University founded in 1477 by Count Eberard im Bart. It is also marked by Protestantism with the founding of Protestant Stift in 1536. In the th century, the city was invaded by the Swedes, the Austrians and the French. But this does not harm its development and, at the end of the th century and at the beginning of the th century, knows unparalleled influence and prestige: the great poet Hölderlin, philosopher Hegel but also Uhland and Schelling live and study in Tübingen. There were many institutes and libraries in the second half of the th century. The takeover of power by the national socialists in 1933 will slow down this expansion: the University is set up, the associations are dissolved. A commemorative plaque in the University today recalls the sacrifice of students who oppose Hitler's regime. Today there are about 25 000 students and it is twinned with cities such as Aix-en-Provence or Perugia, with which it has many common points. Taste its Mostbowle (sparkling wine with fruit, in fact very dry!).
