Stuttgart evokes for many people wide avenues where big cars go by (it's the city of Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and the automotive supplier Bosch) between modern buildings that attest to its wealth. Yet the capital of Baden-Württemberg has many attractions: its magnificent Castle Square, of course, but also its sloping districts or districts on the banks of the Neckar, which are airy with parks and even vineyards. This city of 600,000 inhabitants is also multicultural, with more than 20% foreigners (mostly Turkish or from the Balkans) who contribute to its dynamism and diversity. It is the first city in Germany to be governed by the Greens, which, like Grenoble, indicates the solid alliance of industry, progress, modernity, innovation and the sociological importance of a "bobo" class, scientific and linked to the technical world. It is also an important cultural centre, with three campuses, the headquarters of Germany's second largest publishing group, and internationally renowned museums. These are enough to justify a visit to Stuttgart, but take the opportunity to discover this fascinating metropolis, so modern and proud of its particularities.
