From 1890 onwards, painters Wilhelm Hasemann and Curt Liebich took part in the movement to rediscover the Black Forest, settling in Gutach, which they painted extensively. They died there in 1913 and 1937 respectively. They were among those artists who described the Gutach landscape as a gateway to paradise. In the Gutach valley, around 10 km north of Triberg, you can visit the Vogtsbauernhof, a renowned eco-museum. Please note that the locality, crossed by a picturesque railroad (the train no longer stops there), is called Gutach (Schwarzwaldbahn) to distinguish it from Gutach-im-Breisgau. It is twinned with Stosswihr in Alsace.
