Since 1843, the Alte State, a classic building, has been completed in 1984 by the Neue State, a multi-faceted work, with the curves of the architect James Stirling. Inside (both parties communicate among themselves), collections, especially painting, cover a very broad spectrum: religious works from the Middle Ages to Andy Warhol, the Romantiques, the German romantic and the Impressionist, Picasso or Max Beckmann, few are the great names of the painting that do not have at least one work. In sum, one of the most surprising successes of the German value.
