It was in the Catholic church of Gœrsdorf that the miraculous statue of Notre-Dame-du-Oak was preserved, a work of the th century. Above Gœrsdorf, we join the Liebenfrauenberg, a former convent converted into a place of reflection. Legend tells that a young shepherd discovered in the hollow of an oak an statue of the Virgin. The pilgrims came from afar to admire the statue of his trunk. A chapel was built, then a convent. In 1518, another miracle occurs: Count Reinhard de Deux-Bridges-Bitche, paralysed, finds the use of his members after praying for the Virgin of Libenfrauenberg. He raises a new church and places in the choir a statue of Notre-Dame-du-Oak. In 1580 Count Philippe V of Hanau-Lichtenberg decided to put an end to superstitions and rase the great church. In 1737 the convent was reborn. As for the statue, miraculously saved from the flames of the stake, she will experience a bumpy journey before returning to the Liebenfrauenberg and then to the church of Gœrsdorf.
