Wimmenau, at the borders of the Duchies and Lorraine duchies, is an excellent hiking base for exploring the Vosges of the North. The village experienced many difficulties during the Thirty Years War, and there is still a medieval history of the commune only the church choir of the th century. The village was repopulated after the war by Swiss people in the Bern region, which explains the presence in the village of a beautiful Baroque-style house, the Scherer house, called the Swiss House, which dates back to 1669. In the buildings attached to the Swiss House, there is an oil mill registered in the Historical Monuments Inventory. It is one of the few sang (human and animal energy-powered) that existed in France. He worked until after the Second World War. The Maison de l'histoire et des traditions de la Haute-Wingen is also located in Wimmenau, in the village centre.
