"You would have to have the courage to get there by boat, going up the Po," writes Enzo Biagi. Then, in the morning mist, you could see the little angel of the Duomo floating in the sky. Piacenza is an agricultural city with many attractions. Romanized from 218 B.C., its privileged position on the banks of the Po River made it an important commercial hub throughout the centuries. It was during the reign of the Farneses (1545-1731) that it experienced its period of glory. Annexed to the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza was the first city to join the Piedmont of Savoy in 1848, on the way to Italian unity. Interesting historical center around the piazza dei Cavalli.
