It is the last town before Sibiu, with a population of 12,800. You will see a fortified evangelical church built in the 13th century in Romanesque style, surrounded by a 15th century defensive wall and transformed in the 16th and 18th centuries. The Orthodox church, built in 1755, has beautiful interior wall paintings. Other sights include the ruins of fortifications dating from the early 13th century and Brukenthal Palace, the summer residence of the famous Transylvanian governor. This beautiful 18th-century Baroque building now houses a restaurant and guest rooms. Avrig can be reached by bus and train from Sibiu and Făgăraş.
