Became centre of the city since the th century, surrounded by very colourful houses (blue, yellow, green, orange…), this preserved place of traffic kept an almost intimate character despite its dimensions and prestige. The monument at the centre commemorates the peasant insurrection of 1846. Several worthy buildings are gathered around the square. All constructions south of the square have been declared historic monuments. Among them is the beautiful Casa Haller (at No. 10), built in 1470 but renovated in the Renaissance.
