Located 15 km northwest of Sibiu, this spa is renowned for its treatments and baths in lakes formed by collapsing salt mines ((ocnă means "salt mine" in Romanian). Layers of fresh rainwater, then saltwater, at different temperatures, are superimposed. The resort also boasts two beautifully crafted churches: the Orthodox church was built in 1600, then converted by Constantin Brâncoveanu in 1701. The Reformed church, dating from 1240, was remodeled in Gothic style in the 16th century. You can get there by bus or train: the Băile Ocna Sibiului station, 2 km from the center, is on the Sibiu-Mediaș line.
