10 km south of Sibiu, the small town of Cisnădie (Heltau, in German), with its 20,000 inhabitants, is a fine example of a Saxon village, with its fortified Romanesque church and low-rise houses in the old town. Skilled craftsmen, the villagers erected the various buildings with their own hands, making the most of local resources: wood, wool and stone. Already overtaken by urbanization, we're sure you'll prefer to push a little further to discover the more emblematic Saxon villages, still fully rural. Numerous buses and trains from Sibiu throughout the day. The station is on Strada Transilvaniei, to the northeast of the town.
