Travel Guide Cisnădie

10 km south of Sibiu, the small town of Cisnădie (Heltau, in German), with its 20,000 inhabitants, is a fine example of a Saxon village, with its fortified Romanesque church and low-rise houses in the old town. Skilled craftsmen, the villagers erected the various buildings with their own hands, making the most of local resources: wood, wool and stone. Already overtaken by urbanization, we're sure you'll prefer to push a little further to discover the more emblematic Saxon villages, still fully rural.
