Travel Guide Sebatu

This village is well known to the French, as its dance troupe and gamelan have been coming to France regularly for a long time! Sebatu is located above the magnificent temple Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu. Be careful not to confuse it with the historical monument of Gunung Kawi (royal tombs) in Tampaksiring. Today, the village of Sebatu is specialized in the manufacture of various wooden handicrafts for export, especially toys for children. Sebatu is nevertheless famous for its musicians and its extraordinary semar pegulingan, a gamelan with a heptatonic scale that allows the interpretation of the oldest dances, with slower and softer tempos. The odalan in the temples are particularly majestic. If you are in the area at the right time, do not miss them. In the center of the village, the beautiful wantilan is located near the Pura Desa. This one contains two constructions which have polychrome statues. In the north of the village, Pura Jaba Kuta is the temple from which you can go back to Bilokan, in the direction of Batur.When you come by motorcycle from Ubud, you can walk across the rice fields from the main road to Sebatu. This walk will be one of the most beautiful you will ever do in Bali... Good luck!
