Located on the strait linking the island to the Bukit peninsula, Jimbaran is home to a cove of sumptuous blond beach, luxury hotels and Bali's best grilled fish restaurants on the sand. Fortunately, Jimbaran has also remained what it originally was: a fishing port where, at sunset, the fishermen's prahus ("boats") silhouette themselves on the horizon. Few visitors know it, but every fortnight or so, according to the Balinese calendar, an extraordinary barong (Mapajar) dance performance is given at the Ulun Siwi pura ("temple"), on the main road running parallel to the beach. Surprisingly quiet for a place so close to Kuta, Jimbaran offers very little in the way of affordable accommodation. By contrast, in the evening, after a beautiful sunset, an abundance of people flock to the beach to enjoy the island's best seafood grilled over coconut wood fires. Thousands of tiny candles light up the beach, which is covered with hundreds of little tables... An unforgettable experience.
