The island of Budelli to the northwest of La Maddalena is home to the famous Spiaggia Rosa, so called for the pink hue of its sand. Its hue is due to a strong presence of crushed Miniacina maniacea shells. It was immortalized by Michelangelo Antonioni in a long sequence of his film Deserto rosso in 1964. Very protected, it is now forbidden to approach it by boat or to tread on its sand. You will never admire it better than on the (retouched?) postcards sold in the souvenir shops of La Maddalena. In the north, you can reach the beaches of Passo Cecca di Morto, in particular the Spiaggia di Cavalieri.
